An independent research initiative on the rest and recovery of commercial aviation crews during layovers.
Crews sleep on schedules their bodies did not choose, in rooms designed for someone else. The consequences are operational, not just personal. ACRI collects and publishes evidence on what actually degrades crew rest away from base — and on what could be measured, and improved.
Preliminary findings
Crew survey
55 respondents across 9 airlines and 5 continents. Captains, first officers and cabin crew.
95% of respondents report that accommodation conditions affect their rest during layovers
75% report noise as a recurring disturbance
70% report difficulty sleeping during daytime rest periods
These figures describe the respondents to this survey. They are a first indication, not a population estimate. A larger study using validated instruments is in preparation. Data collected 2026.
